Welcome to my menopause

Welcome to my menopause.

I don’t want to hurt my loved ones, so this is my place to vent as I go through instant menopause following a complete hysterectomy. You are welcome to comment, but considering my impending unstable frame of mind, I request kind and gentle words of encouragement – even if I deserve a firm “suck it up.”

Poop Soup

Yep, bowel prep is as awful as I thought it would be. I even went mostly liquid yesterday to help. It's so hard to drink THAT much liquid. Gotta run

Irony

Just picked up a few more supplies for the big day. Baby wipes, A&D Ointment, children's Tylenol. I find it ironic that I'm getting baby stuff to prepare for end of my baby producing days.

Bowel Prep

Gotta say, when the hospital admin staff first mentioned "bowel prep" I was afraid I knew what she meant. I'd heard the tales from my parents about their bowel preps for colonoscopies. But since this is surgery, not a bowel exam, I held out hope that I was wrong.

I got the instructions from my doctor yesterday. It's the same wretched experience that they went through. Oh no!  This is NOT going to be pleasant.

A couple people told me to go to a liquid diet before the day of bowel prep to make things a little easier. So yesterday we went to the store to get our supplies. Magnesium citrate (the evil substance responsible for my impending doom); tucks wipes and baby wipes (instead of toilet paper); various flavors of broth (looking forward to trying chile lime), more beverages than I will ever be able to consume; and jello and popsicles - my reward for enduring this mess.

I also picked up eggs, oatmeal (thinking it was filling and smooth) and kefir (good digestive bacteria) but it turns out, after more research, that I should avoid high fiber foods, nuts, and dairy. So I'll have those things Monday and Tuesday (when I'm starving and can still do something about it) and go pure liquid Wednesday and Thursday.

One small problem with Monday. It's Labor Day. That means BBQ.  Dad just set up his new BBQ. It's the first time my parents have been back in eight years for a Labor Day BBQ. So I'm eating it. And I will love it. Then I will pay for it.  Hopefully going liquids on Tuesday through Thursday will make up for it.

We'll see.
